Context
Following the implementation of the AGEC law and the Climate and Resilience law, textile companies are now required to provide increased transparency regarding the manufacturing steps and locations of their products. Environmental labeling in the form of an ABCDE score will be progressively mandated to inform consumers.
In this context, an innovation project was launched to develop a calculation engine capable of evaluating the environmental impact of garments by incorporating lifecycle data (raw materials, manufacturing, transportation).

A team of three experts (Project Manager, Business Consultant, and Developer) was mobilized for a one-year period operating in hybrid mode.
The engagement encompassed several key areas:
• Lifecycle Database Creation: Building a database to store product information at every stage of the lifecycle.
• Engine Development & Testing: Developing and testing the calculation engine.
• Compliance & Certification: Aligning processes with Ademe requirements in preparation for certification.
• Garment Testing: Testing across various garment types, including a complete baby clothing department.

This project resulted in an innovative calculation engine fully aligned with regulatory expectations, guaranteeing an accurate and certifiable measurement of textile products’ environmental impact. The tool can be extended to calculate water consumption, providing brands with a key lever to enhance their CSR approach and meet new transparency requirements.
