This is the webperf community’s own project, and it is finally happening: on 9 October, at the Palais de la Bourse in Bordeaux, you will be able to attend talks dedicated to web performance and even debate with professionals, including staff from major companies. In this article we present a few of the topics that will be covered at the event.
So what topics will be covered?
Eight talks have been revealed so far. As the event does not take place until the autumn, it is quite possible that more themes will be announced soon. Among those already announced, we can mention:
- Chrome UX Report: this first talk will be given in English! And with good reason: its author, Rick Viscomi, is an advocate for web transparency at Google. The talk will present a Google BigQuery-based tool offering various features, such as comparing your site’s web performance with a competitor’s.
- Performance budgets, or how to put your site on a diet: this talk will be given by Damien Jubeau, founder of the Dareboost tool (widely used by the dev and SEO communities). It will be a talk on the notion of performance budgets.
- Which metrics should you use to measure your webperf: admittedly the premise of this talk may seem “basic”, but it remains relevant: out of all the metrics (FCP, DCL, and so on), which are genuinely meaningful? And above all, which really matter for your site? That is what Jean-Pierre Vincent (an independent technical expert) will help you discover in this talk.
A few extra details
Webperf enthusiasts wanting to travel to Bordeaux for the event can book their ticket now on the official website. Entry costs 180 euros. The event starts in the morning at 8:30 am and ends in the late afternoon at 6 pm.
Notes for the English version: the French article states that the event “does not begin until September” while also giving the date as 9 October — an internal contradiction to resolve. More importantly, this preview covers the 2018 edition, which is long past: it should either be re-dated for the current edition of We Love Speed or published as an archive piece. The ticket-booking hyperlink was also lost during content extraction and must be restored, and note that Dareboost has since been absorbed into Contentsquare.
