Over the past few days, the CES in Las Vegas (a trade show dedicated to technological innovation and the start-up world) has been the talk of the town. The show features 4,000 exhibitors and more than 180,000 visitors. In this article, discover the most surprising innovations from CES Las Vegas 2018!
Vive Pro: virtual reality by HTC
You probably already know: in recent years, virtual reality has been expanding rapidly, and HTC is a major player in the market with its Vive. The company took advantage of the event to unveil the new version of its headset: the Vive Pro. This new version includes:
- An OLED panel, which will display high-definition images (2880×1600)
- A second microphone to mask background noise
- A second stereo camera
- A headset that is now lighter and allows for better adjustment
- A wireless adapter
The HTC Vive Pro will go on sale during 2018; its price has not yet been announced.
LG OLED 4K: a large TV that keeps a low profile
For its innovation of the year, LG decided to bet on home automation. The TV model the Korean manufacturer presented at CES is a rollable one. Using your smartphone or another connected device, you will be able to roll the television out of its cabinet or put it away. It is even possible not to roll out the whole screen, so as to display only the content you are interested in.
This model is still at the prototype stage; LG is not planning to bring it to market before 2020.
AEKLYS: a connected ring that makes life easier
Imagine being able to pay by bank card, open your front door or your car… all with your finger. It is now possible, and it was a Corsican start-up that presented the idea at CES. This innovative company’s project is to improve contactless technology. The ring features micro-electronic technology that makes it physically comparable to a normal ring. Connected to an app on your smartphone, more than 28 contactless uses will be possible with just your finger. The product is due to go on sale in 2018.
Sgnl, or how to make a phone call… with your finger
This project had the distinction of going through crowdfunding: we are talking about more than 1,400,000 dollars on Kickstarter. The principle is simple: you put a strap around your wrist, connect it to your smartphone via Bluetooth, and the signal from your call travels through the bone conduction of your hand. You hear the sound of the call through your finger, which you press against your ear, and you speak into the strap’s microphone. In addition to this new way of making calls, the strap also offers a pedometer function with a built-in “coach”. You will have access to various pieces of information such as the number of calories burnt per day, distance covered, number of steps, and so on.
The Sgnl will shortly go on sale at a price of 249 dollars.
