What is Laravel?
Created in 2011 by Taylor Otwell, Laravel is an open-source framework written in PHP! It makes programming in that same language easier (from version 5.4 onwards). This framework is today the best-rated PHP product on GitHub: more than 37,000 positive reviews, far ahead of its competitor Symfony, which has around 15,000 (the fact that Laravel is American helps it reach a larger community of developers). It is one of the main PHP frameworks today.
What are its technical characteristics?
Laravel offers a simple syntax and various components that make it easy to learn. In this framework you will find:
- A sophisticated routing system (RESTful and resources); this system was taken from the PHP framework Symfony
- An SQL query builder and a high-performing ORM
- An efficient template engine
- An authentication system for logins
- A validation system
- A pagination system
- A migration system for databases
- An email sending system
- A caching system
- Session management
- The ability to carry out unit tests
CMSs based on Laravel
- October: it was the first CMS to say yes to Laravel! Created three years ago, this small CMS has everything a big one has! It can manage themes, has an Ajax framework and, of course, all of Laravel’s PHP features. Today, more than 200 contributors improve this CMS every day thanks to GitHub. An international community
Laravel’s success has generated a large community of developers who are fans of the framework all over the world. It even has a conference in its honour: if you are interested, head to one of the Laracons; the event takes place twice a year (once in Europe and once in the United States). If you are interested, the next Laracon in Europe will take place on 30 and 31 August 2018 in Amsterdam.
