Are you a fan of augmented reality, but less so of iOS? Android users, rejoice. Google has announced the release of ARCore, a platform similar to ARKit, but for Android.
A complete but above all compatible SDK
Google wanted to think big. ARCore’s new SDK 1.0 offers a great deal of performance with good-quality visuals. Google has also made sure to reduce processor usage, even when augmented reality animations are complex.
The American multinational promises us a large toolbox compatible with 13 devices (including the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, S8/S8+ and Note8 ranges, the OnePlus 5, etc.), which represents a total of more than 100 million devices.
ARCore is available as open source on the GitHub platform, where it has already been starred more than 2,000 times.
Major companies have joined in
ARCore’s success has been heightened by the release of plenty of applications offered by major multinationals!
Among them is Snapchat, which has created a portal allowing you to walk around the campus of the University of Barcelona.
Have you always dreamed of parking a Porsche outside your home? It is now possible! Well, in augmented reality only… The luxury car manufacturer has treated itself to its own ARCore application: it consists of generating its cars in your garage in augmented reality.
Lastly, we find a Google partner that has decided to create Ghostbusters World: a new open-world game of the same type as Pokémon GO, set in the universe of the Ghostbusters film. After catching Pokémon in your garden, you will now be able to kill ghosts.
